Kohl's Needs More Bricks To Click

The Kohl's Corp. may appear a bit behind the times, since it has yet to sell anything online. But some may argue the Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based department store chain is ahead of the game, carefully establishing the infrastructure to support its e-commerce plans.

Kohl's is building a 525,000-square-foot distribution center in Monroe, Ohio. Slated for completion early next year, the nearly 12-acre warehouse marks the company's first step toward web retailing and will feature equipment capable of packing and shipping merchandise within hours of an order. According to a Kohl's spokesperson, the company refuses to begin selling online until it has worked all the kinks out of the fulfillment process.
