Kroger Adding Conveyor Belts to Self-Checkout Lines

Kroger (Cincinnati) is introducing conveyor belts to self-checkout lanes at select stores in the Midwest, according to Eat This, Not That!

The move comes after the grocer held a pilot program for the new conveyors at two stores in the Columbus, OH area, The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The belts will be added to 42 stores in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas, as well as in northern Kentucky.

The new conveyors, of course, will speed up the checkout process, particularly for customers with larger baskets. This not only creates a more seamless shopping experience, but also facilitates more self-checkout transactions, easing pressure that Kroger may be facing from the nationwide labor crunch.
