The Kroger Co. (Cincinnati), announced an agreement to purchase seven grocery stores in New Mexico from Furrs Supermarkets Inc., all ranging in size from 43,000 square feet to 77,000 square feet. Four of the locations are in Albuquerque, while the other three are in Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Socorro.
The stores will operate under the Smith's Food & Drug Stores banner, one of Kroger's convenience store chains. “These stores are located in attractive markets that will provide new growth opportunities for Smith's as we build our business in New Mexico,” said James Hallsey, Smith's president.
Kroger operates 2380 supermarkets, 788 convenience stores, 407 jewelry stores and 41 processing plants in the U.S., under approximately two dozen banners.
