Specialty Store, sales area 5000 to 10,000 sq. ft.
First Place
Chute Gerdeman, Columbus, Ohio
The focus is on fashion – and the plus-sized female shopper – at the new Lane Bryant store in Easton Town Center (Columbus, Ohio). The large, open space is light and airy, with a neutral color palette that doesn’t compete with the high-style, colorful clothing. A “runway” traverses the middle of the store, reinforcing the fashion-forward feel and leading to the cashwrap, where a textured wall is emblazoned with the retailer’s new signature Navajo Red. Throughout the store, plus-sized mannequins and black-and-white images of plus-sized models in the retailer’s clothes give customers a realistic portrayal of how clothes will fit. Curved, fabric-covered light fixtures keep things light, while a drop ceiling above the intimates area offers comfort and privacy. Additionally, outfits and wardrobe concepts were grouped together by lifestyle, and store brands such as Cacique, Lane Bryant’s intimate apparel line, are given their own space to make the store easy to navigate.
