LEDucation 8 to feature eight CEU Sessions in Annual Event on LED Technology.

LEDucation 8 announces VERSATILE line up of speakers for the 8th annual premier event on LED Technology to be held in NYC oN March 18th & 19th.

The Designers Lighting Forum of New York (DLFNY) is proud to announce its versatile speaker line up and also notify attendees that event registration for “LEDucation 8” is officially open.  As the premier lighting event dedicated to advancing the education of the lighting community, LEDucation 8 will take place in New York City on  March 18th & 19th, 2014 in a new two-day expanded event at the Sheraton NY Times Square hotel.

 

 “LEDucation has added an even more diverse session offering for the Basic, Intermediate and Advanced attendee during a total of 8 course offerings being held during the new two-day format.” commented Speaker Chair, Wendy Kaplan of Feelux Lighting. “A special session on Tuesday morning is new to this year’s event and is designed specifically to meet the needs of the Interior Designer.  We are offering Interior Designers the opportunity to become more familiar and comfortable with the new LED technologies, learn how LED’s correlate to traditional lighting and light sources and how this information can be applied to residential and commercial applications. We also have a variety of presentations that can help attendees learn to work more efficiently and effectively with LED technology in their projects from both a design perspective, as well as a controls platform.  All of our topics cover current hot issues in the LED market including the current and future state of LED fixture development to the financial aspect and challenges of working with LEDs.”

 

The annual educational expo hosted by the DLFNY is one of the industries longest running events dedicated solely to LED Technology. It continues to gain a regular following each year and attracts record crowds of with an attendance of over 3,000 in 2013. All sessions are eligible for Continuing Education Units (CEU) and are scheduled in four different sessions each day for the total cost of $25 for access to all sessions on both days and the Trade Show Expo.  This special exposition is available for attendees to view the latest LED luminaires, controls and energy efficient designs and advancements from over 200+ leading LED manufacturers. Tuesday, March 18th

Using LED in Traditional Sourced Architectural Lighting Applications

11:00am – 12:00pm  * Followed by Private Docent Tour of Expo from 12:00 – 1:00 pm – Tuesday, March 18

Level: Basic  *Special Target Audience: Interior Designers

Presented by: John Selander, The Lighting Quotient

John Selander from The Lighting Quotient will provide attendees a closer look into using LED sourced lighting in interior and exterior spaces.  This presentation is targeted as a Basic level for Interior designers to become more familiar and comfortable with the new LED technologies, learn how LED’s correlate to traditional lighting and light sources, and how this information can be applied to residential and commercial designs. Following the presentation, a special pre-show tour of the EXPO show floor will be hosted by local Docents from 12:00 – 1:00 pm providing opportunities for session attendees to ask questions and secure answers from manufacturers and Docent hosts.

LED's Budget Breaker or Project Maker – Financial Considerations of LED Lighting and Installations

Jeff Codd from Wiedenbach Brown and Don McDougall from Solid State Capital Services will differentiate and explain the difference between the COST of LED vs the PRICE of LED; Calculate key financial metrics for evaluation of an LED project; for non-accountants, and help attendees understand and explain cash flow projections and the change in Market Value of a property created by an LED installation.

Changing the Outdoor Landscape with LED

Darin Ayres of FX Luminaire will discuss how technology has helped professionals overcome obstacles and create new opportunities within the world of low voltage exterior lighting. This session will explore LED outdoor lighting design techniques that add depth and create interest for clarity and beauty in the landscape and will also differentiate energy-consumption calculations of LED outdoor lighting systems versus “traditional” incandescent systems.

Innovation – How LED's Have Altered Luminaire Design and Construction

Stephen Blackman from BlackJack Lighting and Tom Ward from Finelite, Inc. join together to share their experiences in LED luminaire design and construction.  Blackman brings forth his expertise in the world of LED and OLED utilizing his engineering and design acumen to become one of the most award-winning lighting fixture designers working today.  Tom Ward shares his views from a manufacturer’s perspective. During this session, Ward and Blackman will explain the fundamental changes in moving from a fluorescent to an LED environment; discuss component lifetime and how LEDs have changed the relationship between end-user and manufacturer; as well as understanding the aspects of maintaining fixtures that are meant to last decades.

Navigating the Shifting Landscape of Lighting Codes and How LED's Can Help

Presented by: Marty Salzberg, Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design & Anne Cheney, LC, LEED® – Cooley Monato Studio

 

Codes are often a confusing topic and forever changing.  Marty Salzberg from Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design and Anne Cheney from Cooley Monato Studio team together to boil down the plethora of information of the new ASHRAE Codes and IECC updates This session will help attendees to assess which codes, standards and criteria to  apply to a given project and learn strategies for building project team consensus. It will also identify opportunities to use LEDs for meeting (or surpassing) lighting criteria and evaluate possible challenges with using evolving LED technology versus legacy lighting technology.

What NGL Tells Us About the State of the Art in LED Luminaires

2:30pm –3:30pm– Wednesday, March 19th

Presented by: Ruth Taylor, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory & Craig A. Bernecker, Ph.D. FIESNA, LC – Professor of Fine Arts in Lighting Design Program, Parsons.

These two experts will help Lighting Designers and Specifiers learn how to effectively assess LED luminaires based on the evaluation criteria and methods developed over the last 5 years of NGL judging competitions.  This process will help Specifiers understand what documentation to look for and why when trying to find high performance LED luminaires and help participants learn to assess tradeoffs between efficiency and quality when evaluating LED products.  Taylor and Bernecker will also help participants understand how current LEDs compare to other traditional sources and how to gauge the progress of LED luminaire development.

Lighting for the Future of Healthcare — Patient Room 2020

Rachel Calemmo of Christian Rae Studio will share with attendees her experiences and knowledge of collaborating with NXT Health and more than 35 service and product providers to design Patient Room 2020, a next-generation inpatient care environment.
