Macy’s Announces Off-Price Pilot

Macy’s Inc. (Cincinnati) announced today that it will launch four pilot stores for a new, off-price retail concept, “Macy’s Backstage.” The locations will all be in the New York area: Brooklyn; Elmhurst, Queens; New Hyde Park; and Huntington, N.Y. The stores, each about 30,000 square feet, will open this fall, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

Macy’s said the stores will market an “assortment of women’s, men’s and children’s apparel, shoes, fashion accessories, housewares, home textiles, intimate apparel and jewelry.” One location will feature a café concept, and all will feature free WiFi and “suite[s] of spacious fitting rooms.”

Merchandise will be sourced from Macy’s stores as well as “deals from well-known brands and at price points that will be 20 to 80 percent below market,” according to WWD.
