Macy’s Finishes Herald Square Renovation

Macy’s (New York) has completed a four-year renovation of its Herald Square flagship located on 34th Street in New York, N.Y. The renovation cost $400 million and has modernized the store.

The New York Times reports that the one feature that was not renovated was the store’s iconic wooden escalators that have been in operation for close to 95 years.The escalators have been repaired with some new treads, safety features and drive motors, but many treads are original, as well as side walls and many mechanical parts.
