Macy’s Mulls Outlet Stores

Researchers and retailers alike predict that bargain-hunting probably won’t end when the economy finally starts to improve. And that may spell an opportunity for retailers like Macy’s. Speaking after the May 15 annual meeting, Terry Lundgren, Macy’s ceo, said the department store chain is weighing options for the launch of a new outlet store brand.

The Cincinnati Enquirer quoted Lundgren as saying Macy's has the idea “on paper” for now. While its leadership evaluates an outlet strategy, the chain continues to grow its portfolio with two new openings and three renovations/replacements slated this year.
