Macy’s Inc. (Cincinnati) and Genesco Inc. (Nashville) have reached an agreement to open and operate licensed team merchandise shops at its stores nationwide under the name Locker Room by Lids.

The LIDS Sports Group, operating within Hat World, Inc. (Indianapolis), is a Genesco subsidiary.

Macy’s will open 25 pilot shops in the fall, and another 175 in spring 2014, all in markets where major professional sports teams or colleges are located. The shops, operated by Lids, will include local branded product from five major sports groups – major league baseball, pro football, pro basketball, major league hockey and college sports – offering headware and apparel for men, women and children, as well as home products and novelty goods.

The shops will range in size from 500 to 1000 square feet, with interactive kiosks for ordering online for merchandise affiliated with non-local teams.
