Walter Mitty would have loved it. Malibu SpeedZone, a new racing theme park planned for nationwide rollout, is open in Dallas and outside Los Angeles, providing themed entertainment for Speed Racer wannabes.

Rides ranging from a Formula One track to a high-speed dragster attraction are clustered around a central clubhouse whose facade is a highway-scaled front end of a race car. Interiors continue the theme, with a high-tech game and redemption area, SpeedZone Cafe, private function rooms and the retail area, dubbed the “Parts Department.”

Eight to 10 more Malibu SpeedZones are planned to open in major U.S. markets by the end of 1998.
