Marriott Pushes NY Expansion

Marriott Intl. (Bethesda, Md.) plans to open 13 budget hotels in New York over the next three years, a company official said on Wednesday at a security analyst meeting held at the Marriott Marquis property in Times Square.

The openings represent 2900 rooms or nearly double the number of properties the hotel chain operates in the city. The first of these projects, the SoHo Courtyard, is scheduled to open November 16 on Varick Street.

The new hotels are part of a larger plan by Marriott, which calls for opening 95,000 hotel rooms worldwide by 2013.
