McDonald's Corp. (Oak Brook, Ill.) vice chairman and ceo Jim Skinner will retire in June, after serving more than four decades with the company. The McDonald's board of directors has elected current president and chief operating officer Don Thompson to succeed Skinner, effective July 1, reports QSR magazine.
Skinner joined the company in November 2004. Over the years, he helped pioneer Plan to Win, the company's strategic framework since 2003 which includes modern, reimaged restaurants, increased menu variety and global initiatives. “Doing what's right for our customers and our business has driven my passion as ceo of McDonald's,” Skinner says in the QSR article.
Thompson became president and coo of McDonald's in January 2010, directing global strategy and operations for more than 33,000 McDonald's restaurants in 119 countries.
