McDonald’s Franchises Offer iPhones as Hiring Incentive

In effort to combat U.S. labor shortages and recruit new employees, McDonald’s (Chicago) franchise owners may offer benefits including eldercare, tuition assistance and childcare, according to Business Insider.

McDonald’s parent company will reportedly co-fund the additional benefits with franchisees. Some franchises are offering iPhones and pay for attending interviews. In May, starting pay at corporate-owned restaurants was raised from $11 to $17 per hour.

Last year, franchise owners began an evaluation of worker compensation, polling 5000 current employees and managers from 750 locations. At the top of the list of requests were increased flexibility and additional training.
