More Charming Than Ever

Charming Shoppes (Bensalem, Pa.) has announced plans to open 1,000 stores over the next five years, including 106 stores, then 140 and 160 a year for the next two years. It also predicted a sales increase of 34 percent in 2000, bolstered by sales from the newly acquired Catherines Stores Corp. and the Modern Woman chain. Projected increases of 8.7 percent in 2001 and 9.7 percent in 2002 are expected to bring total sales to 1.91 billion. Charming Shoppes currently operates 1,754 stores, including Fashion Bug, Catherine's Plus Sizes and Added Dimensions.
