Morrisons Launches New Convenience Store Concept

Morrisons (Bradford, U.K.) has announced that it will be opening a new chain of convenience stores called Morrisons Daily. The new chain is set to launch at a gas station in Crewe, England, and four more stores are slated to open as the company tests the new concept.

The initial store in Crewe will be 1200 square feet and will be open 24 hours a day. The stores will sell a variety of groceries including fresh and refrigerated foods, such as sandwiches, fruit, fish and meat, as well as ready-to-eat meals.

The news comes three months after the company sold its M Local chain of 140 convenience stores.

“These pilots will allow us to create different propositions for each location and the customers they serve,” explained Morrisons’ Logistics and Supply Chain Director Ross Eggleton to The Guardian. “The first pilot in Crewe also allows us to test and refine our approach ahead of opening another four early in 2016.”
