Neiman's Steamin' Ahead

The Neiman Marcus Group Inc. (Dallas) reported that revenues for the five weeks ended Oct. 4, 2003, increased 15.7 percent. Comparable revenues were up 13.6 percent.

Comparable revenues in the luxury retailer's Specialty Retail Stores segment, which includes Neiman Marcus Stores and Bergdorf Goodman, increased 14.7 percent. (Neiman Marcus' other division is Neiman Marcus Direct, which includes catalog and Internet sales.)

The merchandise categories in the Specialty Retail Stores segment that performed well included women's contemporary sportswear and fine apparel, designer handbags, women's shoes, and designer jewelry.

The company said that based on the current sales trends, it anticipates its comparable-store revenues for the first quarter of fiscal year 2004 to increase in the range of 9 – 11 percent.
