New Day, New Dollar

Family Dollar Stores (Matthews, N.C.) has announced the promotion of R. David Alexander Jr. to coo. As such, he will take on responsibility for store operations, in addition to continuing to lead the company's distribution, transportation, logistics and real estate activities. He will also serve on the board of directors.

Alexander has been with Family Dollar since 1995, first as senior vice president of distribution and transportation, then senior vice president of distribution and logistics. His responsibilities expanded to include the real estate operations in 1999 when he was promoted to executive vice president-supply chain and real estate. Family Dollar, a discount retailer has more than 3,600 store locations in 39 states.
