New Grocery Owner

Vornado Realty Trust (New York), which owns offices and shopping centers primarily in the Northeast, has agreed to buy 25 supermarkets in Southern California for $65 million from Newkirk Masters LP.

The names of the stores weren’t released, but the properties have an aggregate of 766,000 square feet.

Vornado, a real estate investment trust (REIT), owns 21 buildings (totaling about 14.3 million square feet) in New York. The rest of its office holdings (some 75 buildings) are in the Washington, D.C. area. It also owns 62 shopping centers in six states and Puerto Rico, including Chicago’s Merchandise Mart and other mixed-use properties.
