In the afterglow of its new Rockefeller Center flagship store in New York, Nautica Enterprises has named Richard Anders president of Nautica Retail USA Inc., the wholly owned subsidiary that operates the company's retail business. A 20-year retail veteran, Anders had most recently been president of retail for the J. Crew Group.
Anders will be responsible for managing the strategic expansion of the company's retail presence in the U.S., reporting directly to Harvey Sanders, chairman and ceo of Nautica Enterprises, Inc.
From 1994 to 1999, Anders was a zone vp and regional manager for Gap, Inc. During the 15 years prior to that, he held various management positions with Federated Department Stores.
While it has some 95 Nautica outlet stores around the U.S., the Rockefeller Center store is the company's first full-price, full-line retail facility. In making the announcement, Sanders referred to “numerous opportunities to further enhance our retail presence.”
Nautica's main source of revenue has always been its vendor shop activity in major U.S. department stores. It currently has 1500 vendor shops in a wide variety of department stores, such as Dillard's, Foley's and Macy's. Through its subsidiaries, the company designs, sources, markets and distributes apparel under the Nautica; Nautica Competition; Nautica Jeans Company; John Varvatos; E. Magrath; Byron Nelson; and Earl Jean brands.
