Ahold USA (Chantilly, Va.), announced it has accepted the resignation of Frank Curci, president and ceo of Tops Market LLC (Buffalo, N.Y.), effective immediately. Curci had been transitioning to a new role as coo of Ahold’s Giant Food subsidiary (Landover, Md.).
In May, Ahold announced that through an internal audit, accounting irregularities for the year 2002 were discovered at Tops. In Curci's role as ceo, it was felt he held responsibility for oversight and control of the business.
Curci had been with Ahold, serving in a variety of positions, for eight years.
Max Henderson has assumed the role of executive vp and general manager at Tops, reporting to Giant Foods president and ceo Tony Schiano.
Tops Markets is one of six retail operating companies under Ahold USA, one of the leading supermarket operations in the U.S. Tops currently operates 159 Tops Friendly Markets; 205 convenience stores under the Wilson Farms, Sugarcreek and Tops Xpress banners; and eight B-Kwik Food Markets in New York, Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio.
Ahold USA oversees 1600 stores in the United States. The operating companies are Bi-Lo LLC (Mauldin, S.C.); Bruno's Supermarkets Inc.( Birmingham, Ala.); Giant Food Stores LLC (Carlisle, Pa.); and The Stop & Shop Companies Inc. (Boston); plus Giant Food Inc. and Tops Markets LLC.
