Seattle-based Nordstrom Inc. plans to relocate its downtown Seattle Nordstrom Rack from the Broadacres building on Second Avenue to Westlake Center at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Pine Street. The 42,500-square-foot store is scheduled to open in spring 2012 and will have 30 percent more selling space.
The company said in a statement that it believes locating the store in the heart of the retail core across the street from the downtown Seattle Nordstrom store will serve as an added convenience for customers who like to shop both locations.
“Our new Westlake Center location will be larger, offer our newest Rack design features and make it easier for customers to shop both stores,” says Geevy Thomas, president, Nordstrom Rack.
The first Nordstrom Rack opened in the basement of the downtown Seattle Nordstrom in the early 1970's, and later moved to its current free-standing 42,000-square-foot location in the Broadacres building in 1987.
