Michael Osborn, currently president and chief operating officer of Macy’s West, the San Francisco-based division of Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati), has been named president and chief operating officer of the company’s Macy’s Home Store division (New York), effective Aug. 8, 2005.
Osborn will join Timothy Adams, who recently was named chairman and ceo of Macy’s Home. The division, established in 2004, is responsible for the centralized buying, merchandising and marketing of home furnishings for the company’s 423 Macy’s stores nationwide.
“Mike Osborn is one of Federated’s most experienced and talented operations executives,” said Federated vice chair Janet Grove, to whom Macy’s Home Store reports. “He has demonstrated particular success in managing big-ticket businesses such as furniture, and in improving the in-store shopping experience. Mike and Tim Adams represent a dynamic team to drive improvement in the division and build Macy’s into a powerful destination for distinctive, lifestyle-based home fashions.”
Osborn began his retailing career in the data processing area at Los Angeles-based Bullock’s, then a division of Federated, in 1974. He became Bullock’s vp of operations in 1984, and in 1989 moved to Federated’s Burdines division (Miami) as senior vp of operations. In 1993, he was named executive vp of administration at Stern’s (Paramus, N.J.), then a separate division of Federated. He was named president and chief operating officer of Burdines in 1994, and president of Macy’s West in June 2002.
