Owen (New York) announced it will be closing at the end of July, due to the redevelopment of its current building, which includes demolishing and rebuilding the structure.
Located in New York’s Meatpacking District at 809 Washington Street, the 1800-square-foot store stocked fashions from up-and-coming designers, including Cushnie et Ochs (New York), Jonathan Simkhai (New York) and Acne Studios (Stockholm, Sweden), reports Women’s Wear Daily. The current building features a curved installation along one wall that is made from 25,000 paper bags. On the shop’s last day, customers will be able to take one bag as a souvenir.
The store’s owner, Phillip Salem, anticipates opening a new store in 2016 but wants to ensure that the new store will be consistent with the brand’s identity and established aesthetic. The decision has not yet been made regarding where the new store will be located.
