Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. (Anaheim, Calif.), a specialty apparel retailer, has hired Gary Schoenfeld as its president and ceo.

PetSmart Inc. (Phoenix), a specialty pet retailer, has appointed Robert Moran ceo. Moran has been the company’s president and coo since 2001 and will retain his title as president.

Borders Group Inc. (Ann Arbor, Mich.), a book retailer, has hired Arthur Keeney as its senior vp, marketing, and named Rich Fahle vp, creative, outreach and entertainment.

STORE OPENINGS

hhgregg (Indianapolis), a consumer electronics retailer, has opened new store in Hilliard, Ohio.

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market (El Segundo, Calif.) plans to open four stores in July in these California cities: Pasadena, Oxnard, Orcutt and Lompoc.

BUSINESS BRIEFS

Limited Brands Inc. (Columbus, Ohio) has deployed energy-efficient lighting from GE Consumer & Industrial (Cleveland) at five distribution centers at the apparel retailer’s headquarters complex. Limited expects the updated lighting to net annualized energy and maintenance cost savings of about $775,000.

Meijer (Grand Rapids, Mich.), an operator of 189 grocery/general merchandise supercenters, is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Boston Retail (Medford, Mass.), a manufacturer of display, power and protection products for retailers, has launched the FastLane Alliance Program to refer electrical contractors to its customers.

AWARDS

The New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNYC) announced recipients of the 2009 Lumen Awards at the recent 41st Annual Lumen Gala in New York. The Lumen Award of Excellence, the competition’s top honor, went to Fisher Marantz Stone Inc. (New York) for its work on the interior lighting of the Museum of Islamic Arts in Doha, Qatar, while the Feltman Award of Excellence went to Tillotson Design Associates (New York) for its work on the Vera Wang flagship store in New York.

Top honors in the ninth annual Antron Carpet Fiber Product Innovation Awards competition went to Masland Contract (Mobile, Ala.) for its Floorplan Series and Atlas Carpet Mills (Los Angeles) for its Dance Partner Collection, both of which captured gold awards in the broadloom category. In addition, Lees (Calhoun, Ga.) won gold in the modular category for its Sixth Sense Collection.
