PAVE-ing the Future

The Planning and Visual Education Committee (PAVE) has announced the winners of its 2005 Student Design Competition.

Prabhangshu Kundu, a student at RMIT University (Melbourne, Australia) won first place among two-year students for a project entitled “ZONE.” The instructor was Samuel Falanga.

Sungho Kim, a student at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), won first place among four-year students for a project entitled “It’s on ION.” The instructor was Eric Feigenbaum.

Runners-up among two-year students were Young Sun Yoo of FIT (instructors: Veronica Romano and Donna Greco); and Makoto Yamada of FIT (instructors: Troy Williams and Ann Finkelstein).

Runners-up among four-year students were Chen Lin He of FIT (instructor: the late Lawrence Israel); and Andy Tang of the Academy of the Arts (San Francisco). (instructor: Jane Chan); Julie Boynton of FIT (instructors: Eric Feigenbaum and Lawrence Israel); Lucy Dawson of the Academy of the Arts (instructor: Jane Chan); and Satoshi Matsuzaki of FIT (instructor: Eric Feigenbaum).

The project challenge was for a manufacturer of portable/personal digital communication/entertainment products that was preparing a new line of merchandise to be introduced in 200-square-foot shops in department store formats across the country. The assignment was to develop the product assortment to include four additional related products and accessories; create a brand name and define a lifestyle with this classification that bridges any generation gap; design and develop a logo for the new product line as well as the assorted package and graphic designs used in promoting the brand; design a fixture grouping, to include three fixture types. The selling environment should be defined by fixture placement, signage and visual presentation.
