Pets.com put to sleep

Pet owners must like drive, concludes analysts in the wake of Pets.com demise. The online pet supply merchant (and reportedly the first publicly traded e-company to completely shut down) pulled the plug on Wednesday.

Pets.com says it was unable to find either a buyer or a financial backer to salvage the operation and plans to sell off its inventory, distribution equipment and lay off 255 employees.
