A volatile Silicon Valley and accelerated gas prices shouldn't dampen the holiday spending spirit, says the National Retail Federation (NRF).
According to the 15th annual “Consumer and Retailer Mood Survey,” 82 percent of prospective holiday shoppers polled said they will probably spend the same amount of money as last year, or more.
The poll, which surveys consumers and shoppers, is designed to measure consumer and retailer expectations and is conducted by Deloitte & Touche (a professional services firm) in affiliation with the NRF.
Consumers said they would spend $836 on holiday gifts this year, which is statistically unchanged from last year. Retailers surveyed, however, estimated that November and December sales will surpass last year's holiday season by 4.5 percent.
