Prema Nolita Day Spa, located in Manhattan's busy NoLita neighborhood, offers an escape from the chaotic city with an Asian/Zen-inspired design. Desai/Chia Studio (New York) used simple, natural colors and materials, including mahogany furnishings and cabinetry and bamboo flooring. In the treatment room, where the Zen-retreat feeling is most evident, silk wall panels and soft cove lighting create a stress-free environment. River rocks (embedded in the floor) line the room's perimeter, signifying the outdoors. To extend the nature theme, designers are planning an outdoor “Zen garden” for the store's courtyard.
