Retail Design Collective week in New York is a visual smorgasbord for designers, visual merchandisers, suppliers and, yes, magazine editors. Within minutes of my arrival in Manhattan last month, I hit the streets to check out the holiday windows and new stores. There I stood, slack-jawed, before one glorious display after another before whipping out my iPhone to document the sights for our editorial coverage and to share with friends on Facebook. (These posts were followed by comments like “This is what you do for a living? I want your job.”)

From there it was on to three schedule-packed days of showroom visits, educational sessions, the PAVE Gala and the fabulous parties that this industry is so well known for. Be sure to check out our February issue for a full report of the RDC’s events.

Getting out in the market is critical not only for magazine editors to stay on top of lightning-fast changing trends, but for you as well. That’s why our annual Look Book issue is such a valuable tool as you dive into the new year’s projects. We bring the market to you. In fact, Look Book’s publication is timed to the start of a new year, when our resolutions for fresh starts both personally and professionally are top of mind.

Our editors have carefully curated the industry’s best offerings in multiple categories – from flooring and graphics to mannequins, lighting and more. Look Book is a valuable source of inspiration and a great companion to our online Buyers’ Guide (http://buyersguide.vmsd.com)

With seasoned and well-connected editors based in major cities like New York and London, we’re able to keep a close eye on the retail design landscape. Still, we can’t be everywhere, so we depend on industry sources to share their leads for the latest projects and trends. Our readers are those sources. You may be a source. Are you preparing to launch an innovative new project? How about insights on industry happenings and trends? Don’t be shy. Drop me or any of our editors a note.

The VMSD family wishes you a healthy, happy and prosperous new year.
