Rite Aid Corp. (Camp Hill, Pa.) reports same-store sales increased 0.5 percent for the four weeks ended April 23, 2011. April front-end same-store sales decreased 0.4 percent while pharmacy same store sales, which included an approximate 133 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, increased 1.0 percent. Prescription count at comparable stores increased 0.7 percent.

Total drugstore sales for the four-week period decreased 0.4 percent to $1.954 billion. Prescription revenue accounted for 68.3 percent of drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue represented 96.5 percent of pharmacy sales.

For year-to-date sales, the drugstore chain saw same-store sales increase 0.2 percent for the eight-week period ended April 23, 2011. Total drugstore sales were down 0.7 percent to $3.904 billion

Rite Aid operates 4705 stores compared to 4773 stores in the like period a year ago.
