Rizzoli Bookstore Opens New Flagship

Rizzoli Bookstore (New York) has opened a new, New York flagship location. Located at Broadway and 26th Street, across from Madison Square Park, the independent bookstore is housed in a Beaux-Arts building from 1896 that is protected as a historic landmark.

The retailer had to close its previous location on 57th Street more than a year ago when the building was slated for demolition. However, it chose to repurpose many of the furnishings from the old store (such as its tables and chandeliers) in the new location.

The retailer, known for its collection of arts and fashion titles, commissioned a store window display that features a display of art books surrounded by a variety of Vivienne Westwood, Gucci and Manolo Blahnik fashions. The store also commissioned a sky-scape mural to run along the building’s 18-foot ceilings, reports The New York Post.
