Sears Roebuck and Co. (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) will debut Sears Grand, an off-mall concept complementary its mall-based full-line stores, on Oct. 11, 2003, in West Jordan, Utah.
The retail organization says that, based on customer need and feedback, “Sears Grand will offer a new shopping experience with a mix of products and services unique in the industry. In addition to carrying everything a Sears full-line store offers, Sears Grand also will provide convenience-inspired goods in a location located closer to more customers' homes.”
“We're building this store 'from the customer up' and providing those everyday solutions she's told us she needs as part of her busy life,” said Jerry Post, senior vp for growth strategy. “Everything about this new store — the location, the layout, the merchandise and services — has been designed from the customers' point of view.”
The 210,000-square-foot, one-level store will complement Sears' regular product offerings, carrying refrigerators and milk, microwaves and soup, lawn mowers and fertilizer, clothes and laundry detergent.
A second pilot store, Sears Grand at Gurnee Mills, is slated to open in spring 2004 in suburban Chicago, and a third store is expected to open in Las Vegas in fall 2004.
