Seeing Double

JoS. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. (Hampstead, Md.) has opened its 54th store for 2004, located at The Old Farm Shops in Champaign, Ill. The opening represents the company’s 14th store in Illinois.

It plans to open six more stores by the end of its fiscal year, including five stores in January, for a total of 60 new stores in fiscal 2004. In the past week, additional new stores have opened in New Canaan, Conn., Viera, Fla., Smithfield, R.I., and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The men’s retailer notes that it has more than doubled its store base in the past four years, and it expects to achieve a similar growth rate over the next three to four years. Established in 1905, the company operates 263 stores in 37 states and the District of Columbia; a nationwide catalog; and an e-commerce website.
