She Just Does It

Mindy F. Grossman, recently president and ceo Polo Jeans Company/Ralph Lauren, a division of the Jones Apparel Group, will become global vp of apparel for Nike, effective Oct. 1, 2000. “We are committed to apparel as a major force in our global growth,” said Nike ceo Phil Knight, “and the addition of Mindy . . .is evidence of that commitment.”

Grossman spent nearly a decade with Polo Ralph Lauren. As head of Polo Jeans Company since 1995, she was responsible for brand strategy, launch and growth of the jeans product. Prior to that, she was vp of new business development at Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. (where she worked on the initial concept and development of Polo Jeans) and president of Chaps Ralph Lauren. As senior vp of Warnaco Menswear from 1991 through 1994, she is credited with the repositioning and subsequent growth of the Chaps business from $30 million to over $150 million. Prior to her affiliation with Polo, Grossman was senior vp of sales and merchandising for Tommy Hilfiger from 1987 through 1991; and before that, from 1983 to 1987, vp of WilliWear/WilliSmith.
