Shinola Sister Store Opens

Filson (Seattle) has opened in downtown Detroit near sister store Shinola.

It’s the outdoor outfitter’s first Michigan location and its 10th nationwide. According to a press release, the store was founded by C.C. Filson in 1897 to outfit prospectors headed for the Klondike Gold Rush, but Shinola acquired it in 2012.

Filson is third in a succession of Shinola-related shops, including Wiley’s and Fellow Barber, that have set up on the Canfield block, although those have been shuttered, reports the Detroit Metro Times. The sister stores sit among high-end neighbors like John Varvatos and Will Leather Goods.
