Staples Inc. (Framingham, Mass.) has named three international appointments in an effort to bolster the company's global growth. John Barton has been named executive vp, international development; Anders Kristiansen to president of Staples China; and Noah Herschman to chief of merchandising for Staples China.

Barton, who previously served as Staples’ executive vp of real estate, will oversee the retailer’s Chinese, Indian and South American units. He’ll also develop the company’s worldwide operational best practices across its retail, contract and catalog channels.

Kristiansen will oversee the day-to-day operations for Staples' business in China. He previously worked as managing director of the Asia Pacific division at Lyreco SA., a business-to-business distributor of office supplies.

As chief of merchandising for Staples China, Herschman will lead a consolidated merchandising function across contract, catalog and retail channels.
