Starbucks Announces Aggressive Expansion

Starbucks (Seattle) announced at its annual meeting Wednesday it will open 8000 new stores over the next five years — or the equivalent of one store every six hours, 24 hours a day.

The expansion plan aims to bring the current Starbucks’ store count of 22,000 up to 30,000. Most of the growth will be international, including within the company’s fastest growing market, China, reports GeekWire.

At the meeting, Starbucks also announced two mobile-delivery pilots in Seattle and New York City. The company already has an app that enables users to order drinks and food remotely at 650 stores in the Pacific Northwest.
