Starbucks Expands to Finland

Starbucks Coffee Co. (Seattle) and SSP – The Food Travel Experts (Surrey, U.K.), operator of food and beverage brands worldwide, is opening stores at Helsinki Airport in Vantaa, Finland, by early 2012. The plans follow an announcement last month to open a location in Gardermoen Airport in Oslo, Norway, also in 2012.

SSP will bring two Starbucks stores to Helsinki Airport – one in the arrivals hall where it will be accessible to passengers and visitors from the city and the other near the boarding area.

“Since we opened the first Starbucks store in Sweden, it has consistently performed above expectations,” says SSP's ceo Andrew Lynch. “We're delighted to now be building on this achievement with the opening of these new stores to bring the Starbucks experience to customers in Finland and Norway.”

SSP, which entered into a strategic relationship with Starbucks in 2008, opened its first Starbucks in Sweden in 2010 at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. It will also be opening the first Starbucks accessible to non-travelling customers at Gothenburg and Malmö railway stations in early 2012.
