Stein Mart to Add 11 New Stores

Stein Mart Inc. (Jacksonville, Fla.) has announced it will open 11 new stores in 2015.

The off-price retailer plans to enter three new markets with the expansion — the San Francisco Bay Area, Long Island, N.Y., and suburban Detroit.

The first store to open, on March 12, will be a one-story, 32,000-square-foot unit in Cupertino, Calif., reports Women’s Wear Daily. The company’s 10 other openings will take place in the second half of the year.

Stein Mart currently operates 280 stores in mostly affluent communities. “Our customers average a household income of over $100,000 and skew a bit older with the kids generally out of the house,” said D. Hunt Hawkins, president and ceo of the company.
