Store Concepts 2002, May 18 – 20, New York

If you didn’t make it to EuroShop this year, come to New York in May and see some of what you missed. Members of Visual New York (VNY), an alliance of permanent showrooms around Manhattan offering the latest in visual merchandising and store fixturing products and services, will open their doors for Store Concepts 2002, each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event coincides with the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (www.icff.com), featuring furniture designers from around the world, which takes place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center May 18 — 21.

New This Spring: Special Events
Industry Roasts George Dell

Special events are being planned for this year’s market. On Sunday, May 19, from 6 to 10 p.m., members of Visual New York will “roast” display industry veteran George Dell at a cocktail reception and dinner. Dell, a fixture in the industry for over 25 years, is closing his 25th Street showroom to pursue other interests. The dinner event will be held at the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) which is located on West 27th Street between 7th and 8th avenues. Proceeds will be donated in Dell’s name to the F.I.T. Display and Design Department. Tables of eight are $1000 and individual tickets are $135. To reserve a table, order tickets or for more information, call 212-620-0034 or email dkdisplay@erols.com.

Industry Roundtable

On Monday, May 20, from 1 to 3 p.m., VM+SD magazine and VNY will sponsor an Industry Roundtable Presentation in the F.I.T. Amphitheater. The topic of the discussion – “How Visual Merchandising Supports the Retail Brand – Past, Present and Future” – and will be moderated by VM+SD associate publisher Carole Winters. Panelists include Ignaz Gorisheck, Nieman Marcus; Sal Lenzo, Saks Fifth Avenue; and Eric Fiegenbaum, Globe Arts and F.I.T. In addition, winners of VM+SD‘s Ninth Annual Visual Competition will be presented. This event is free and open to Store Concepts attendees and F.I.T. students and faculty. Reception

The roundtable will be followed by a reception in the F.I.T. Museum, featuring the Display and Exhibit Design Senior Exhibition and Senior Student Projects. Graduating students will be available for job interviews. The reception is sponsored by VM+SD and VNY.
