Store Design Ideas That Can Compel People to Buy Even if They Don’t Want To

A large number of people across the globe are increasingly turning to online shopping, given its plethora of benefits. However, Pragma Consulting found something different. They found that although more than 80% of the people prefer to browse products online, more than 50% still prefer going to a brick and mortar store to make the final purchase decision, says an article by Forbes.
In an information-loaded world, there is still a large number of people step into a retail store with zero idea about what they want to buy and even what to look for. In fact, it is commonly known that nearly 70% consumers make their purchase decision at a physical retail location. This comes as a great opportunity for store owners. Custom point-of-purchase (POP) displays are a great marketing tool that help retails store highlight new promotions, products and more. And, businesses can choose from temporary or permanent in-store displays, based on their needs and budget.
Here are a few easy to implement strategies you can put in place to spruce up your retail store and drive customer attention to the right places. These will not only enhance the appeal of the store, but will encourage more sales as well, while keeping everything within budget.
Have a Clear Message at Every Area
Any retail store can be easily divided into various areas, such as store front and outside area, point of sales and inside area. When walking through all these areas, including the retail counter, displays behind the store counter or POP displays, a customer is basically on a journey. It is really important that every touch point is designed to give out a certain message that you want your customer to understand or experience. Don’t forget the front windows. It is the store front that drives a passing customer to enter the store.
Leave White Spaces
White spaces are a popular and highly-used concept in web designing. The aim is to leave empty/blank spaces around text images or videos to get them the most attention. A similar concept works well in retail. Not many businesses might realize that putting too many products within the sight of the buyer can confuse them. In their confusion, they’ll be repelled from the idea of buying anything at all. Retail stores will have to ensure that they leave white spaces between different products, including in the store’s window displays and throughout the retail location, especially the point of sale, to attract each visitor’s focus.
Cleanliness is Key
Did you know that more than half the consumers didn’t care to enter a business premises just because it appears dirty to them? This is what  a report published by Retail Customer Experience had to say.
Needless to say, the external appearance of the business matters. Customers today are highly visual and driven to make decisions based on physical appearance. Some people might even compare a retail store with a place they were shopping at earlier. Not finding similar elements in the store design could repel them. So, retail shop owners need to make an effort to keep their premises clean and organized, while highlighting some signatory elements that passers-by can relate and be drawn to.
Don’t Forget the Lighting
Bringing in light is the cheapest and quickest way to improve the appearance of a store. Pick a crisp white-yellow light, instead of a yellowish-brown light, to create a lasting impression. Customers respond very well to such lighting, since they are better able to assess the color and quality of the products on display.
Store design can be improved in a million ways. However, not all changes lead to the desired results. Sometimes, the entire investment is a waste if the right elements aren’t focused on.
