SuperTarget On A Roll

A SuperTarget rollout is on its way, with 14 new outlets slated to open this year. Minneapolis-based Target Corp. held a presentation in Atlanta recently to announce plans for another 30 superstores in 2001.

The SuperTarget prototype, in Roswell, Ga., features elements exclusive to the superstore format, including a Starbucks coffee shop and E*Trade shop. Target also plans to open its new stores with a wider merchandise selection, including a Mossimo apparel line and Eddie Bauer brand camping gear.

Traffic volume at the prototype runs between 60 and 80 percent higher than at the average Target store. At the company's current rollout pace, Target foresees surpassing its original goal of operating 200 SuperTargets within 10 years.
