Target Fights “Amazon Effect” with Price Match

Target Corp. (Minneapolis) announced yesterday that it will match prices at top online retailers, including Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com and Toysrus.com, as well as its own website.

Effective immediately, the policy allows shoppers to match prices found online within seven days – or while they’re in the store. Gregg Steinhafel, Target’s chairperson, president and ceo, says, “We know that our guests often compare prices online. With our new price match policy … Target provides an unbeatable value.”

Prices can be verified using printouts or mobile devices, and the changes are effective immediately. Stores in Alaska and Hawaii are excluded, as are items sold on online retailers, such as Amazon, by third-party “marketplace” vendors.
