Target Jettisons 550 Corporate Positions

On the heels of an announcement that the mass merchant would be shuttering its Canadian stores, Target Corp. revealed Wednesday that it will eliminate 550 jobs at its Minneapolis headquarters, while an additional 170 positions in India will be eliminated over time.

Roughly 350 of those positions will be cut immediately, according to Women’s Wear Daily, and the rest face elimination after the Canadian closures.

“This is a difficult day for the Target team, but we continue to believe that the steps we are taking are the right ones for the company,” said a spokesperson for the retailer.

All employees affected by the job cuts will remain on the payroll for at least 60 days and will receive comprehensive severance packages based on their years of service, reports WWD.
