Target Corp. (Minneapolis) opened 26 new stores nationwide this week, including locations in Alaska, California, Illinois, Missouri, South Dakota, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Texas and Colorado.

The company, which has increased its grocery offerings in recent months as consumers’ buying habits have shifted toward groceries and other household necessities, says most of the new locations include food, including five full-grocery SuperTarget locations and 21 general merchandise stores. The remodeled Wauwatosa, Wis., store is among 18 that have expanded food offerings, including fresh produce, meats and baked goods.

The company plans to offer fresh food and produce at 100 of its general merchandise stores by the end of the year. Target operates 1743 stores in 49 states nationwide.
