Target Shops Ward's 'Clearance'

Those old Montgomery Ward shells might not sit empty for long. Reportedly, Target Corp. is reportedly looking to buy 50 to 100 former Wards, eyeing locations in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. These one-level locations average 90,000 square feet.

Montgomery Ward Inc. — a Chicago-based chain even older than Sears — couldn't recover from bankruptcy (declared two years ago) and recently announced its intention to close all 250 stores.
