Tesco Apparel Retailer Expanding to U.S.

Great Britain's largest retailer, Tesco (Cheshunt, U.K.), will bring its F&F clothing chain stateside this year. The company’s announcement comes on the heels of its failed six-year attempt to launch its Fresh & Easy supermarket chain in the U.S. The chain was sold off last September.

Tesco and its U.S. franchise partner Retail Group of America (New York) will open seven stores on the East Coast this year, starting near Boston next month. Stores in New York, Philadelphia and Newport, Va., will follow. The brand will compete in the arena of value-priced retailers such as Target, J.C.Penney and Old Navy. F&F found quick success in the U.K. and now operates stores in 21 countries. Tesco is the world’s third largest retail corporation.
