Tesla Officially Moves HQ from California to Texas

Tesla said it has officially moved its corporate headquarters from Silicon Valley to a “gigafactory” outside of Austin, TX, the Associated Press reports.

CEO Elon Musk first announced at the company’s annual meeting in October that it would move its home base to the Lone Star State. The article says it isn’t clear if all of the headquarters employees will be required to move, but an analyst estimated that Tesla will give many the option of staying.

According to SEC filings from 2020 cited by the AP, Tesla said it had about 71,000 employees worldwide. Per company news releases in 2020, the electric car maker employed about 10,000 at its Palo Alto, CA headquarters and 10,000 at its factory in Fremont, CA.
