Toddlin' New Bloomingdale's Home Store

The Bloomingdale's store on Chicago's Michigan Avenue is due for a remodeling and a sibling; Federated Department Stores announced plans to open a Bloomingdale's Home Store on Wabash Street in Chicago (west of the Magnificent Mile). The new store would occupy 130,000 square feet on four floors in the city's old Medinah Temple. Among the external touches will be the recreation of the temple's historic onion domes.

Construction of the store – which will carry textiles, housewares, rugs and tabletop items – will begin in the fall with an expected completion of spring 2002. It will be the first Bloomingdale's Home Store in Chicago. Once it is completed, the Michigan Avenue store will be remodeled with plans to expand apparel, cosmetics and shoes into the old housewares department.
