Syms Corp. (Secaucus, N.J.) has closed its downtown Chicago men's apparel store, claiming that construction of condominiums near the location at Wabash Avenue and Washington Street chased shoppers away.

The 50,000-square-foot store had been opened in August 1999. The construction of the Heritage at Millennium Park condominiums had begun in the spring and will continue through 2004.
